Automatical Installation
Start vpn.uni-ak.ac.at
Select the desired behavior under “Group“:
- UNI-AK: The whole data traffic is routed through the VPN tunnel
- UNI-AK (Split-Tunneling): Only the data traffic to the applied person is routed through the VPN tunnel
- ZID_UNI-AK: VPN Access for ZID Employees
Log in with your account name. Enter your account name (for employees: p-number, students: s-matriculation number) and your password and click on “Login“

Click on “Login“
After the successful login, your system is analyzed and tries to install the client automatically using Java or ActiveX.

If a security warning appears, confirm this with “Yes“.

Start the Java application with a click on “Start“.

The AnyConnect Client will now be installed, wait a moment.

After successful installation, a new notification symbol appears in the task bar, marked red in the screenshot below.

If the automatic installation does not work, please use the manual installation.
Manual Installation
We ask you to use the Firefox browser for the manual installation.
Open vpn.uni-ak.ac.at in your browser
Log in with your account name (for employees: p-number, students: s-matriculation number) and your password.

Click on “Login”. Wait for the automatic installation attempts until a download link is offered. Click on “Windows Desktop” to start the download. Then select “Save file” in Firefox.

Start the downloaded File





Application
The client starts and connects automatically after the initial installation, but when you exit the program or restart your computer, you will find the Cisco AnyConnect client in the Windows start menu or in the info area of the task bar in the lower right corner.

To establish a VPN connection, open the client by clicking on the icon.

A new window will now appear.
Enter “vpn.uni-ak.ac.at” as the connection point and click “Connect”

Enter your account name (for employees: p-number, students: s-matriculation number) and your password.

You are now in the Angewandte’s VPN.

If you want to end the connection, click with the right mouse button on the info icon of the Cisco AnyConnect Client.
